OzBioPharm operates a biotech facility in Melbourne, Australia that manufactures recombinant proteins and other products requiring large scale fermentation.

With over 40,000 litres of total capacity, the facility is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere and can produce hundreds of kilograms of recombinant protein per annum.

Sophisticated purification operations offer the ability to produce proteins to pharmaceutical specifications.

For many years this GMP-licensed facility has been producing Reporcin®, Alpharma’s world-first commercial recombinant porcine somatotropin product. Extended fermenter capacity is now available to our customers for a wide array of microbiological applications, whether the product is biomass-associated or excreted. Inclusion body products are ideally suited to the plant, with its large scale solubilisation and protein refolding capability.

OzBioPharm has the capability to provide expertise across all areas of production and the technical skills to facilitate the often-difficult scale-up transition.

The facility comprises over 1,500 square metres in total area, and key equipment includes 20,000 litre fermenters, 1,000 litre fermenters, centrifuges, homogeniser, as well as downstream purification capability in the form of diafiltration, anion and cation exchange chromatography, concentration and conventional filtration systems. All systems are automated and can deliver high quality data describing the processing activities.

This facility offers the ideal environment for taking laboratory or pilot projects to large commercial scale. Performance can be assessed prior to the commitment of scarce capital to a dedicated production plant. Alternatively, a long-term manufacturing partnership may offer the perfect solution.
