IVS Product Listing NEW
Issue: March 2003 © 1996 - 2003 MIMS Australia
Alpharma Animal Health Pty Ltd
Section: 3(a) Nutrition and Metabolism - Antibiotic and anti-infective supplements
IVS Revision date:NEW - 05 AUG 2003
Registered Name: Bovatec CC Lasalocid Sodium Feed Additive Premix 150 g/kg
Composition: Lasalocid sodium 150 g/kg
Actions: Bovatec in the rumen reduces the gram-positive bacterial population, including those often responsible for excessive gas production, thus allowing for the development of gram-positive bacteria and some protozoa. The modification in the ruminal microflora population results in improved feed deficiency. Bovatec is also coccidiocidal against the most common bovine and ovine coccidial species, resulting in reduced shedding of coccidial oocytes and reduced clinical signs of coccidiosis.
Description: Light brown granules
Indications: For improved liveweight gains and feed conversion efficiency in growing cattle and lot fed beef cattle; to aid in the improvement of milk production by dairy cows fed high protein grass pastures and by lot fed dairy cattle and for the reduction of faecal shedding of coccidia Eimeria spp. in sheep maintained in confinement and the control of clinical signs of coccidiosis and reduction of faecal shedding caused by Eimeria bovis and Eimeria zuernii in growing cattle.
Contraindications: This product may be fatal if fed to horses or other equids. DO NOT USE in lactating ewes where milk or milk products may be used for human consumption.
Warnings: Only for use in feeds for lot fed and supplement fed beef and dairy cattle, calves and sheep. Efficacy has not been established for use in heifers with respect to enhanced milk production. BOVATEC CC medicated feed may cause a reduction of intake when first introduced to cows. To minimise this effect cattle may be acclimatised by phasing in medicated feed over several days during the pre?calving period. Medicated feed is well tolerated after the introductory period. Provide medicated feed for the duration of lactation and do not exceed preferred use rate for BOVATEC CC in dairy cattle. Reduced daily gain may result at 5 times and mortality from 15 times maximum recommended dose.
Precautions: Not to be used as a single dose treatment. BOVATEC CC Premix is toxic to fish and some aquatic invertebrates therefore it should not be allowed to contaminate waterways.
Safety Directions: Harmful if swallowed. Will irritate the eyes and skin. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not inhale dust. When opening the container and mixing into stock feed wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist and a washable hat, elbow length PVC gloves, face shield or goggles and disposable dust mask. Wash hands after use. After each days use, wash gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing.
First Aid: If poisoning occurs, contact doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131126; New Zealand 0800 POISON (0800 764 766).
Disposal: Shake and empty contents into medicated feed. Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on-site. Puncture or shred and bury empty container below 500 mm in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose clear of waterways, vegetation and roots. Empty bag and left-over product should not be burnt.
Withholding Periods:
Cattle: Meat - Nil; Milk - Nil.
Sheep: Meat - Nil; DO NOT USE in lactating ewes where milk or milk products may be used for human consumption.
Dosage and Administration:
BOVATEC CC Feed Additive Premix is for use in complete feed, or supplements to a ration, given by continuous feeding. Mix BOVATEC CC Premix evenly into stock feed.
1. General administration rate:
For improved liveweight gains and feed conversion efficiency and for control of clinical signs of bovine and ovine coccidiosis, BOVATEC 15 CC Premix is used continuously in the feed at a mix rate of between 67 g and 400 g of the premix per tonne of total feed (air dried basis). Daily per head rate for cattle is from 0.5 g to 4 g of BOVATEC CC Premix. Daily per head rate for sheep is from 0.1 g to 0.4 g of BOVATEC CC Premix. Preferred use rate is 220 g per tonne.
2. Administration according to management situation:
A. In total mixed rations: Mix 220 g (0.22 kg) BOVATEC CC Premix in 1 tonne (1000 kg) of feed on a 100 % dry matter basis. This provides 33 mg lasalocid/kg (33 ppm) in the feed. The following table provides a guide to quantities of feed required.
