Harmful if swallowed. Will cause irritation and stomach upset. May cause headache, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue and loss of coordination. Large doses may cause hypercalcemia, alkalosis, and a risk of kidney and liver damage. Large oral doses may also cause "milk alkali syndrome" characterised by symptoms such as irritability, lethargy, stupor, coma.

Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, out of reach of children. Store in original container. Keep container tightly closed and out of direct sunlight. Keep away from acids oxidising agents. Keep away from sources of heat. Prevent dusts from collecting in storage areas. Protect from physical damage. Clean up all spills promptly; avoid secondary accidents.
Disposal of small spillages only. For large spillages liquids should be contained using sand or earth, and both liquids and solids then transferred to salvage containers. Residues should be treated as for small spillages.
