Aurofac Overview

Product Description:
Aurofac (chlortetracycline, or CTC) has been added to poultry feed as a broad spectrum antibiotic for four decades. When in high concentrations, CTC is frequently bactericidal. Aurofac inhibits binding of aminoacyl1-tRNA at the A-site on the ribosome of bacteria, therefore stopping the initiation of protein synthesis in both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Active Ingredient: Chlortetracycline(CTC) (produced by fermentation with a strain of Streptomyces aureofaciens)

Stability:
Premixes: When stored appropriately at room temperature, Aurofac premixes have been shown to be stable for at least two years.
Finished Feeds: Preferably medicated feeds should be used within 13 weeks of manufacture and Aurofac premixes have been shown stable within this period.
There are no documented cases of incompatibility between Aurofac and other feed additives.

Safety:
Animals: CTC has a low order of toxicity in all animals tested with the exception of guinea pigs.
In target species: using Aurofac at 1 and 3 times recommended dosage does not cause significant clinical abnormalities and all animals remain in good health.
Humans: No problem associated with human health in Aurofac/Aureomycin premixes or finished feed manufacturing processes.
The withdrawal periods of Aurofac have been established after careful testing of CTC formulations in target animal populations.

Summary:

  • Rapid absorption following oral administration
  • Rapid achievement of effective concentration in blood and target tissues
  • Maintenance of therapeutic levels after oral administration
  • Active against enteric, systemic and respiratory infections
  • No prolonged tissue residues if used correctly
